Chris' Cheap Text Effects

This is more a process piece than it is an example.
Learn as you go along.
(despite the similar beginning, this is different from #1)
1. create a new picture, 400x200 grayscale
2. use the type tool to put in the word "Text"
New Century Schoolbook Bold, 150 pt, do not antialias
(antialiasing would just waste time here)
make sure you have Trutype or ATM fonts
(jagged text sort of ruins the effects)
3. center the text in the picture
4. select all
5. copy to the clipboard
6. make a new channel (#2)
7. paste
8. Image->Map->Invert
9. select none
10. go back to channel #1
channel 2 is now a mask of our original text
to compare the results, just make channel 2 visible
11. Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur
2.0 pixels
12. Filter->Noise->Add Noise
64, uniform

Thus endeth today's lesson.
There are many more possibilites for that (semi)final noisy text -
but you should now have a feel for what can be done by adding noise
and manipulating the text, plus what can be done with it using
some of the standard tools.
Note that these tricks are usable with _any_ high contrast shape.
Also note that these manipulations are just the beginning when you
use the image as a mask for channel operations.
