  8. This is more a process piece than it is an example.
  9. Learn as you go along.
  10. (despite the similar beginning, this is different from #1)

  13. 1. create a new picture, 400x200 grayscale
  14. 2. use the type tool to put in the word "Text"
  15.     New Century Schoolbook Bold, 150 pt, do not antialias
  16.         (antialiasing would just waste time here)
  17.     make sure you have Trutype or ATM fonts
  18.         (jagged text sort of ruins the effects)
  19. 3. center the text in the picture
  20. 4. select all
  21. 5. copy to the clipboard
  22. 6. make a new channel (#2)
  23. 7. paste
  24. 8. Image->Map->Invert
  25. 9. select none
  26. 10. go back to channel #1
  27.         channel 2 is now a mask of our original text
  28.         to compare the results, just make channel 2 visible
  29. 11. Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur
  30.     2.0 pixels
  31. 12. Filter->Noise->Add Noise
  32.     64, uniform

  137. There are many more possibilites for that (semi)final noisy text -
  138. but you should now have a feel for what can be done by adding noise
  139. and manipulating the text, plus what can be done with it using
  140. some of the standard tools.

  142. Note that these tricks are usable with _any_ high contrast shape.

  144. Also note that these manipulations are just the beginning when you
  145. use the image as a mask for channel operations.
